Big Sky Montana - Metal Siding

Montana Metal

When deciding what types of materials to use for their office headquarters building, Big Sky Vacation Rentals had to consider their surrounding environment. With pretty harsh winters and mild summers, they needed materials that would work just as hard during both seasons. That’s where metal panels come in.

For the metal siding, they utilized one of the strongest metal panels available on the market: 7.2 Structural Box Rib panels. The panel’s combined industrial aesthetic with unmatchable heavy-duty strength made them the perfect choice for siding. With an exposed fastener system, installation is simple and efficient. The anti-siphon groove that comes with 7.2 Structural Box Rib panels helps make them weather-tight and helps them protect against leaks for a lifetime — a critical factor for Montana’s environment.

Another huge appealing factor of metal panels is their versatility. They can be used for more than just roofing or siding, including exterior accents. Big Sky Vacation Rentals took advantage of metal’s ability to be used in multiple applications by adding an accent to their entry way. For their entry way accent, they choose Bridger Steel’s Custom Flat Panels. Customizing their own panel gave them the freedom to choose the look they wanted without sacrificing the performance they needed.

Modern Mountain Design

Building an office headquarters in the beautiful, mountainous Monata landscape meant finding solutions to the challenges this landscape can often present. While the mountains provide stunning backdrops for the building, the ever-changing environment that comes with it can be a challenge.

A remote location with possibly difficult access points means siding can be easily damaged from animals or weather conditions. Metal siding can provide a building with unbelievable protection that will last for decades to come. With an average lifespan of 40-70 years and little to no maintenance required, it’s an ideal material for any mountain home or building.

Weathering Steel Ideal for BSVR

Big Sky Vacation Rental chose to use Bridger Steel’s Truten™ A606 Weathering Steel finish for their entryway accent. This finish is ideal for any home or building in mountainous environments due to its aesthetic and the way it fits seamlessly into the surroundings.

Weathering steel has multiple layers to it. It begins with a top coat of copper, phosphorus, and silicon, which forms a textured oxide surface on the panel. Once the panel gets exposed to different weather conditions, and as time passes, it will begin rusting. Each panel will have its own unique look that depends heavily on the surrounding environment.

Truten™ A606 is also ideal for mountain environments because it’s extremely corrosion resistant. Once that top coat is gone, the steel will ionize, meaning it will not continue to rust or rust the whole way through. It will simply provide a stunning, completely unique look. Plus, that base layer of steel has the same life expectancy as other colors or finishes.
